The capacity analysis process involved with congested signalized intersections and the common mistakes with potentially very significant differences that can affect operational modifications and traffic impact study mitigation improvements.
For operational analyses, the incorrect results can underestimate delays and queues for improvements that don't provide the appropriate signal phasing and timing and/or adequate turn bay storage lengths to accommodate the correct queue values. These errors could result in operational improvements that don't overcome the existing issues being addressed.
For traffic impact studies, the incorrect results can underestimate delay values to require inadequate mitigation improvements for offsetting the additional traffic. Then, the developer can be charged for only these improvements that can result in congestion upon the development opening with the local jurisdiction responsible for the additional improvements.

These Highway Capacity Analysis training sessions present detailed information on the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM7) procedures and Highway Capacity Software (HCS 2025) applications. Step-by-step instruction of the HCM7 methods is provided for each analytical chapter, followed by example problems and HCS 2025 demonstrations. Questions and comments are managed during the sessions with a copy of the slides provided.
The series is organized into training sessions following this Agenda to allow flexibility to participate in only those most important to you. Individual (multiple) registrations can be for the entire Training Course (Sessions 1-7) at $450 ($400); Uninterrupted Flow (Sessions 2-3) at $225 ($200); Interrupted Flow (Sessions 4-7) at $275 ($250); or Streets Only (Sessions 6-7) at $200 ($175). This Signal Capacity Software training provides example problems, software demonstrations and hands-on workshops using the HCS 2025 application of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM7) procedures. HCM7 example problems are reviewed and demonstrated using HCS 2025, followed by coding exercises for participants. The signals and streets sessions include multiple-period analysis, signal timing optimization, interchange ramps terminals, alternative intersections and TransModeler solutions to HCM limitations. Questions and comments are addressed during the sessions and a comprehensive workbook is provided to include all slides.
These training session is scheduled for One Day from 1-4 ET following this Agenda. Individual (multiple) registrations can be for the course are $200 ($175).
